A fine early Federal period mahogany 'Looking Glass' 1790 - 1810. Wall mirrors of this design were produced both in the United States and England. This piece is quite similar to one illustrated in, 'American Furniture Of The Federal Period', by C.F.Montgomery, 1978, p-265 fig.218 with Hartford,CT. label.
This very pretty mirror with especially attractive design, gilt Phoenix bird, and nicely carved mirror surround is constructed of nicely grained mahogany and mahogany veneers with pine secondary wood. The frame is in fine condition with a few minor repairs, fine color, and old finish. The back is original with fine age patina. The mirror is old but likely a replacement done sometime in the 19th century as it is reasonably clear.
A fine Federal piece for the collector. Newport, Rhode Island provenance available to purchaser.
Dimensions; height 33", width 19", mirror only 21 1/2" high, 12 1/2" wide
