Above is a portrait of a young boy about four years old, painted ca. 1900. The painting is signed "Ella Richards" lower left. Ella Richards is listed in Who Was Who in American Art, 1564 - 1975, Volume III. She was known as a portrait and genre painter who studied ASL with R. Henri, with Lefebre and Fleury at the Academy Julian in Paris, and with R. Collin in Paris. Her American addresses include Virginia, Baltimore, and Massachussetts.

This particular portrait is of her Nephew, Clift Richards at the age of four. The painting was reframed in 1975, and the provenance is written on the back of the frame.

The portrait is in good condition. It might benefit from a professional cleaning. There is some minor crackle with all the paint being stable.
