'Sheffield' Silvered Candlesticks

Fine pair of 'Sheffield' type silvered candlesticks, ca. 1850. They are in the Roccoco Revival style favored prior to the Civil War. Exhuberant leaf and scroll forms dance up and down the shafts creating a dazzling effect. The condition of these candlestick is excellent with the only wear being on the inside of the bobeches. These are truly the nicest candlesticks like this we have seen in a long time.

Although these period candlesticks are not marked we believe that they were made by the same process invented in Sheffield England. The process solders the heavy silver sheet to the base copper. Solder marks can be seen on the base. Later silver platers used the electroplating process. Please see further photos of this by clicking on the photo above.
