One of the best examples of its type this superbly carved large and heavy ivory brush pot features a panoply of scenes from the Chinese classics. The carving is executed in minute detail with very deep undercutting which gives this piece exceptional visual appeal. This piece represents the best ivory carving done in Canton and Shanghai at the height of the China Trade period in the mid nineteenth century.
