Early 19th Century Chinese Laquer Sewing Box

Shown above is a complete early nineteenth century Chinese Laquer sewing box with all it's accoutrements. The top opens to reveal compartments full of sewing implements such as needle threaders, spools for thread, an ivory clamp amoung other items nescessary for sewing in the 19th century. A drawer pulls out for use as a writing surface. Laquer pieces such as this were made in China for use and export to England and America. For its age it has survived in remarkable condition. There is some raised laquer on the top and sides but most of the laquer remains intact and stable.
