Shown above is a fantastic East Indian Roswood Tray from China ca. 1850. The tray is profusely inlaid on ALL FOUR SIDES with mother of pearl. The inlays iridesce with the pearly pastel hues naturally occurring in this rare shell. The designs are varied and include flowers, geometric patterns, scrolls, and other traditional Chinese decorations.
The condition of this rare China Trade tray is remarkable. All the mother of pearl inlays are intact. There are two age related shrinkage cracks in the wood on the bottom of the tray. These cracks follow the natural seams in the original construction, which is normal and quite acceptable for a piece of this beauty and age. The tray's corners are brass mounted, save for one which blends in with the patinated brass of the other three. Please see all of our photos of this item
This tray will appeal to China Trade Collectors and anyone who appreciates fine antiques. Dimensions: 12 " wide x 5" deep x 5 1/4" high
Price: $475.00
