Shown above is a rare and great looking bronze eagle "Grand Tour" desk / mantle timepiece, made in France, ca. 1890. Finely modeled eagle is perched atop "Grand Tour" columns. In the nineteenth century, wealthy people often toured Greece and Rome as well as Europe in general. They often brought back souvenirs of their travels. This ruins sculpture is probably such a souvenir. The eagle is shown with a captured snake which in turn supports a rhinestone bejeweled "Crystal Ball" clock. The clock is in excellent running order with a fine 2 day movement.
