The Seth Thomas, outside bell ships clock is one of the most handsome and famous clocks designed for use at sea. It was made from the 1870s through the 1920s.

This clock strikes 'Ship's Bells' through a double strike system marking off the series of four hour 'watches' that make up the sailor's day. Each four hour watch is divided into half hour periods tolled off from one through eight bells. These clocks were intended to be hung on the bulkheads of ship's pilot houses, captain's cabins, etc., and could be found in vessels ranging from tugboats to the most luxurious yachts, to battleships and riverboats. While one of the most decorative ship's clocks ever designed, the Seth Thomas 'Outside Bell' was intended for real work, and therefore not many survived in the excellent condition we see here.

The two day movement striking ships bells is in excellent condition. This model is the most advanced of this famous nautical clock.
