An especially handsome ormolu mounted rosewood and marquetry Neo-Classical Mantle Clock, France, circa 1830. Standing 20" tall, this clock's impressive four column form is based on the Classical architecture of Greece, Rome, and Egypt. These forms were greatly admired during the 'Age of Enlightenment'.
The clock has an eight day time and strike movement of excellent quality with painted porcelain dial, and original filligree ormolu hands. The back plate of the movement is marked with the cartouche of 'Vincenti & Cie', one of the most prominent movement makers of the period. The beautiful cast, chased, and engraved bezel and pendulum exhibit the best craftsmanship of the period, and retain 97% original gilding.
The rosewood casework, with contrasting marquetry in a rare floral motif - floral inlay on the four columns is a quite rare feature - shows excellent craftsmanship and design. The case is in fine condition with old finish and patina.
This clock exemplifies the best of its period.
