This is an exceptional piece combining elements of late Classical and early Victorian design and representative of the best New York cabinet making of its period. The legs and stretcher are beautifully carved in solid rosewood, the skirt is rosewood veneer with carved rosewood trim on poplar secondary wood. The table retains its original white marble top. The design and quality of carving are superb. The form is excellent. The color and finish are excellent with all elements crisp and sharp. This center table is a superior example of a scarce form and may well be a product of Joseph Meeks , noted New York cabinet maker. The table is in fine condition with a few minor age/shrinkage checks in the base inevitable when rosewood was used in solid construction.
