A fine model of the Famous WW-II ,US Navy & Marine Corps F-4-U 'CORSAIR' fighter plane. This model was produced in the period 1944-45 by the well known TOPPING CO., Akron, OH. This company, founded in 1943, built presentation models of both military and civil aircraft for presentation by the aircraft manufacturers and US Government agencies to 'VIP' individuals. The 'F-4-U CORSAIR was designed and built for the US Navy by Chance Vought Div. of United Aircraft . It is regarded by many as the finest fighter/ fighter bomber of WW-II. The F-4-U entered service in the Pacific theater of the war in early 1945 where Navy and Marine pilots flying it quickly gained complete superiority over enemy fighters. It also proved itself a superb ground-support fighter-bomber. the F-4-U went on to fight in the Korean War. This model is a true World War-II piece showing proper origional insignia for the period. the model is constructed in heavy early 'Navy Blue'plastic with silver painted cockpit and applied insignia (looks like early decals to us). The model is in fine original condition with untouched patina, originalcockpit paint, and insignia. This 'CORSAIR' has a special presentation thick aluminum stand mounted with genuine WW-II pilots wings that were used by both the Marine Corps. and the Navy.
