A rare Burmese Export Silver Teapot, ca. 1880. This fine example of a classic Western form combined with Asian decorative arts exemplifies the great appeal of Asian Export Silver. Ship's officers and traders had silver pieces created to order as practical manifestations of the 'Mysterious East' to bring to their home ports. Examples of this work done in Burma are rare. This piece is of good size and weight of silver. It is very finely made with fine proportions and beautifully decorated with vignettes of figures done in high repouse with arabesque borders. The quality of design and workmanship are excellent. The teapot has a maker's signature on the bottom and is in fine condition with good patina. The handle is ebony.
